Today on 'JC Speaks AI', we're taking a time machine back through a decade of AI's hottest topics. And let me tell you, the results might surprise you.
So, if you want to know the top 5 AI subjects that had everyone talking, stick around!
Alright, let's simplify things. Imagine for a moment you could peek into thousands of AI research papers, filtering out all the jargon, and then see the core subjects everyone's been focusing on. That's exactly what a recent study did, using something called 'bibliometric analysis'.
Fancy term, but it basically means studying and analyzing tons of written materials to find patterns and trends.
Researchers picked through articles on the 'Web of Science' database, specifically targeting top-tier AI journals. They then honed in on the top 10% of high-citation articles from 2008 onward. That's over 12,000 papers!
Here's where things get interesting.
They broke down these articles' core keywords into three categories: algorithm techniques, general technologies, and application technologies.
And from this mountain of data, they identified five stand-out topics that have been on the forefront of the AI world.

Starting with number 5, we have 'Big-data based intelligence'. Think huge amounts of data teaching machines to think and decide.
At number 4, we find 'Bio-inspired intelligence' – AI that mimics nature, like how birds fly or fish swim.
The third spot goes to 'Classical model-based machine learning'.
These are foundational techniques that have been tried and tested over time.
Number 2 is all about 'Human mind simulated intelligence'. Yup, creating machines that think just like us.
And the number 1 spot?
'Perception intelligence'! This is about machines sensing and understanding the world, like how self-driving cars 'see' the road."
